John Steele A District Commissioner with the Glenham Fire District and a Director for region 7 Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York hosted the forum. In attendance were Senator Rob Rolison, Assemblyman Anil Beephan, 1st Vp Gene Perry of FASNY, 2nd Vp of FASNY Don Farrell and about 40 Fire Commissioners throughout Dutchess County. Senator Rollison along with Assemblyman give their support to help find a solution for these difficult challenges with the new OSHA standards that the fire service will face. Vp Perry and Farrell explained some of the challenges that could be coming. There could be 22 new NFPA standards coming at the fire service, and we need to find a way to meet that challenge. There are some standards that we are doing that we are doing presently, some that with a lot of work we can achieve and some that may be very difficult with all the additional training that firefighters will need to perform and the cost factor for each fire department. The one thing we must do as an individual is to send in a comment to the State Fire Districts website at www.afdsny.org. click on OSHA Urgent Action Needed, scroll down to Submit a Comment, click on Green button Submit a Formal Comment. WE NEED To MAKE A Difference.
